Merv Nidesh, K.C. is Senior Counsel with Chow McLeod LLP and works with Pham Law Group as Of Counsel. Practising law since 1969, he brings more than 55 years of legal experience and an extensive background in criminal trial and appellate advocacy. His involvement adds exceptional depth to our defence team and strengthens our ability to defend serious and complex criminal cases.

Mr. Nidesh’s experience spans criminal charges ranging from assault to murder, with successful defences in serious violent, drug, firearms and impaired driving cases. His practice includes manslaughter, sexual offences, drug trafficking and importation, weapons offences, fraud and dangerous driving. He has conducted numerous criminal trials across Saskatchewan and Alberta. His Alberta experience includes regular appearances in Medicine Hat and successful trials in Calgary, Edmonton and Lethbridge.

His experience extends beyond the trial courtroom to criminal appeals before the Court of King’s Bench and the Court of Appeal. He has also appeared as defence counsel before the Supreme Court of Canada, bringing to our team a perspective informed by advocacy at every level of the criminal justice system.

Mr. Nidesh obtained his law degree from the University of Saskatchewan College of Law and is a member of both the Law Society of Saskatchewan and the Law Society of Alberta. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1984, a designation now styled King’s Counsel.

Merv brings a commanding courtroom presence and the judgment to know when to object, when to press a witness and when to let an answer stand. His advocacy is disciplined, decisive and focused on what advances the defence. Working with Mr. Pham and our lawyers, he contributes senior strategic guidance to case assessment, preparation and trial advocacy.
